There's a new trend thats starting to take over the grain dryer business for on the farm grain dryers. And that new trend is tower dryers. Up until recently tower dryers weren't seen much on the farm. The tower dryer was seen mostly at larger elevators and grain terminals. And the main reason for that was because the tower dryers offered were all huge in both size and capacities. And still most companies don't offer a line of tower dryers that is sized for the farm. Until now! M-C offers a entire line of farm sized tower dryers as well as sizes aimed at the larger grain terminals. And of all of the ones that we have installed on farms, they work great and you would never talk the farmer into going back to a conventional grain dryer! A few years ago the Mathews Compant bought out the Butler grain dryer division of grain dryers known at the Kan-Sun grain dryer. And over the years M-C has made several changes to those tower dryers and has a great line of tower dryers that are aimed more at the farm. These dryers range in size from a 360 bu. per hour dryer removing 10 points of moisture, to a 900 bu. per hour dryer removing 10 points of moisture. When removing 5 points of moisture the range is from 540 bu. per hour, to 1,300 bu. per hour. And these dryers work great! And the entire concept of these dryers is so simple and efficient! All of these models use only one fan and one motor. Which of course means less electric use. And they have a very efficient Maxon burner that is made right here in Indiana. The concept as we said is very simple as well as efficient. As the heated grain moves down through the grain column, the fan pulls the colder outside air through the heated grain thus pre-heating the air going into the heating chamber. So rather than heating air that is 20 or 30 degrees, it is heating air that is already 120 to 140 degrees. And this takes much less gas than heating the colder outside air! Needless to say it uses a lot less gas than other conventional grain dryers! And thats only one of the many great ideas that went into the making of the M-C Tower Dryer! GET GOVERNMENT GRANT MONEY!
The USDA wants to help you pay for your next new grain dryer! Thats right, you can get help from Uncle Sam on your next drying outfit! Government grants are available right now to help farmers replace older less efficient grain dryers for new more efficient models. The program is called REAP for short which stands for Rural Energy for America Program. Officials last year couldn't believe more farmers didn't apply for the program. After all Uncle Sam is willing to pay as much as 30% of the total cost for installing more efficient equipment up to a final cost of 500,000.00! They said the program simply wasn't advertised enough. And it still isn't! It's hard to believe but only 13 farmers in Indiana took advantage of the program last year! Dean Edwards of the USDA said they hope the numbers are way up in 2009. All you have to do is fill out the forms and they will run your application through the acceptance proceedure and they will write the check! The application does involve a little paperwork, but if you are interested in replacing your current grain dryer with a new much more efficient M-C grain dryer, the M-C company will fill the paperwork out for you at no charge. And I might add that every single M-C model dryer meets the efficiency standards needed to be accepted! Another program they have up and running right now is guaranteed low interest loans for efficiency improvements. These loans will cover as much as 75 to 80% of the final cost with a spending cap of 500,000.00. At last word they will be accepting applications into the early summer months at least.
